FORMULA

Osmo Door-Oil is a unique oil and wax combination designed to nourish and protect interior solid wooden doors, and some selected veneered doors.

The unique formulation penetrates the wood surface whilst remaining microporous and breathable.

The dried finish will not crack, peel, flake or blister.

The surface also becomes healthy and elastic, and the wood’s fibres are prevented from becoming dry and brittle over time reducing shrinking and swelling.

RECOMMENDED

Osmo Wood Protector 4006 is recommended as a base coat for doors and joinery in wet-rooms such as bathrooms or small kitchens to increase the water resistance.

For veneered doors (not solid) it is recommended to check with the door’s manufacturer for instructions or guidelines before application. Wood treated with Osmo Wood Protector 4006 may appear a little more wetted or intensified. Always trial apply Osmo Door Oil 3033 Raw over the Wood Protector to ensure the final appearance meets with expectations.

  • Over application and/or low ventilation can also increase the drying times.
  • Recommended application is 35ml/m²
  • Multi-purpose cleaners such as washing up liquids and detergents are highly detrimental to the finished surface and is not recommended to be used as discolouration or staining may be possible.
  • Other household cleaning products such as vanish, bleach, baking soda etc. are likely to cause severe discolouration or staining.
  • For a range of colour tones required for solid doors (not veneered), see Osmo Polyx®-Oil Tints or Osmo Wood Wax Finish.

NOTE

Applying the product too generously and insufficient ventilation lead to delays in drying time. Oils enhance the natural tone of wood (clear Door-Oil 3060 with permanent wetlook-effect). Osmo Door-Oil 3033 Raw counteracts exactly this effect and protects lighter coloured wood almost invisibly.

The original look of the wood can be kept – no emphasising of the natural colour of the wood (no wetlook-effect). On dark/reddish wood species, Osmo Door-Oil 3033 Raw can be seen as a faintly white surface. Over application of Osmo Door-Oil 3033 Raw can also result in a faintly white surface. A trial application is recommended.

Using general or multi-purpose cleaners will increase the frequency of maintenance and recoating. Allow finish to fully cure before heavy usage.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 18%). Osmo Door-Oil is ready to use. Do not thin. Shake well before use. For solid doors, clean old microporous stains thoroughly.

Old paints, varnishes and lacquers must be completely removed. If renovating veneered doors, always check with the door manufacture that renovation is possible. Always wear a dust mask while sanding. Fill small cracks, larger joints or holes in wood (with Osmo Wood Filler). Sand wood surfaces carefully.

Begin with coarse sandpaper – final sanding P120-150 for solid wood doors. Before oiling the surface, remove sanding dust with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner. If possible, please apply the first coat to all sides before installation.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

With Osmo Flat Brush or Osmo Microfibre Roller, apply thinly and evenly to the clean and dry wood along the wood grain and spread well.

If applying the Door-Oil 3033 Raw, remove excess white pigment before allowing the surface to dry. Allow for good ventilation while drying. After drying, apply a second coat – also thinly.

CARE

Regular Cleaning: Dust mopping. Damp mopping using Osmo Spray-Cleaner.

Occasional Maintenance: For the Intensive cleaning of stubborn scuff marks, and refreshing the sheen on Osmo Door Oil 3060 clear satin, use clear Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner. Avoid using Liquid Wax Cleaner over Osmo Door-Oil 3033 Raw matt as it will appear more shiny.

Recoating: Simply re-apply one coat onto the clean and dry surface when slight signs of wear become visible.

TOP TIPS

  • For solid doors with reddish, exotic or otherwise ingredient-rich wood species, use Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin. For Veneered doors with reddish, exotic types of timber, always contact the door manufacturer for further guidance on finishing.
  • Always shake the can well before use. Failure to mix the white colour (within Osmo Door-Oil 3033 Raw) and all ingredients could lead to an increased patchiness.
  • If Osmo Door-Oil 3033 Raw becomes excessively applied, or if the surface has been sanded to a very fine grade of sandpaper – the inherent white pigments can show visibly in some areas. For solid doors, the remedy is to carefully sand the surface back then finish to the same sanding grade or texture as surrounding areas. Apply the Osmo Door-Oil 3033 Raw very thinly along the grain and spread well. For veneered type doors, always check with the manufacturer that sanding is possible then proceed accordingly. Always trial apply first.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Untreated wood in its original form has a light, pale character from its natural ‘raw’ appearance. Sanded wood also has the same effect.

Osmo Door-Oil Raw Matt 3033 is designed to retain this appearance by using a small amount of white pigments to neutralise the permanent ‘wet-look’ that develops after application of a clear finish.

Apply very thinly and brush out any white pigments from the surface before leaving to dry to achieve the desired results.

The wood’s true beauty is accomplished by using Osmo Door-Oil Clear Satin, 3060. The emphasis on the wood’s grain and natural characteristics provides a warm and rich effect to ensure that any interior looks luxurious and elegant.

Great for interior doors

Perfect for oiling our interior wooden doors. Easy to apply and a little goes a long way.Quick to dry but it does have a strong odour and that takes a few days to go away.

Use sparingly & sand after 1st coat.Leave 2 days after 1st coat.Must use bristle free brush.

Absolutely superb product to use.Doesn’t dry too quick & goes on so easy.Use very sparingly as it states, it really does go a long way.Used about 1.5ltrs which did 4 doors, spindle staircase & bannister rail which all took 2 coats. The key is the preparation. All my oak was new oak so I would recommend not to sand as some people do.You need the oak to be slightly rough so the 1st coat can key in & most new oak is.Just washed down with a slightly damp clean sponge, let it dry then hoovered any remaining dust off.1st coat went on really easy but as mentioned earlier use very sparingly & don’t put too much on the brush.Go with the grain.Left for about 2 days.I then lightly sanded using a 120 grit sandpaper. This is vital to do otherwise you’ll end up with a rough feeling door.It says you don’t have to with this oil but you do.2nd coat was a little more difficult to do as it’s very hard to see it going on but if you stick to what you did with the 1st coat & use sparingly it won’t be a problem.Attached a few photos but over the moon with the product & would highly recommend.

Oak veneer doors

I purchased this oil to cover oak veneered internal doors. The product has very little odour and is very easy to apply. The new doors took a good first coat of oil and required a light sanding with 320 grit sandpaper wiping down with a damp cloth. The second coat went on easily and was again rubbed down. The finish was a excellent. They do take a while to dry so did my doors early evening when traffic is low giving them all night to dry.The one litre can covered four doors twice with very little left over.Very pleased with how the project turned out.
