Barrettine Clear Universal Wood Preserver, in a generous 5-litre size, is an essential solution for those seeking to protect and preserve their woodwork while maintaining its natural appearance. This colourless preserver acts as an effective primer, preparing wood for overcoating with paint or varnish, without altering the wood's natural hue. It's perfectly suited for both untreated wood and treated timber used outdoors, including windows, frames, external doors, and structural timbers in indoor unoccupied areas like floor joists.

Formulated as a universal, low odour, solvent-borne product, it actively guards against wood-destroying and wood-discolouring fungi, as well as wood-boring insects. Its excellent penetrating power ensures the active ingredients are transported deep into the wood, while allowing for a degree of vapour permeability. Though colourless, coloured versions of this preserver are available that contain UV fade-resistant pigments, offering additional protection against the sun's damaging rays.

The finish provided is semi-transparent, allowing the natural texture and grain of the wood to shine through, with a matt to satin appearance that varies with the smoothness of the wood and the number of coats applied. Once fully dry, it becomes odourless, making it versatile for use either as a final topcoat or as a primer. When used as a primer under a topcoat, such as paint, compatibility should always be checked.

Ideal for exterior applications, this preserver is suitable for joinery in external walls, including doors, windows, facades, carports, shutters, and balcony railings. It's also effective for wood in unoccupied areas or wood resting on ground/hardstanding, exposed to intermittent wetting like garden products. However, it's not intended for wood in constant contact with water or for in-ground use.
