Excellent brackets but poor screws

I found an old stair handrail in the attic of my Victorian house. After removing layers of paint, sanding the wood smooth and staining it dark oak, I needed some suitable brackets. The ones supplied by Oakcrafts seemed to be right and they turned out to be perfect. At the same time, I ordered a pair of brass end plates and although they are about 0.5 mm too big it’s barely noticeable. Delivery was very prompt and efficient. My only complaint is that the screws supplied seem to be of inferior quality. They sufficed but any tougher tightening would have caused the heads to disintegrate.
